Your culture. Your story. Your art.

What does your culture mean to you? A family tradition, a language, a meaningful place, or a story passed down through generations?

Boca High PTSA invites all Boca High students to explore that question through the 2026–2027 National PTA Reflections Art Program. This year’s theme is “What My Culture Means to Me.”

You don’t need to be enrolled in an arts class to participate. Bring your creativity, your perspective, and an original work that connects to the theme.

Choose your creative outlet

Students may submit original work in any of these six categories:

Visual Arts
Literature
Photography
Dance Choreography
Film Production
Music Composition

Looking for inspiration? Think about a tradition you want to carry forward, a memory that connects you to your roots, or something that gives you a sense of belonging. Choose the format that helps you tell your story.

Why participate?

Reflections gives students an opportunity to showcase their talents, express themselves, and receive recognition and awards. Entries may advance through school, district, state, and national levels. National winners are eligible for an $800 Young Artist Scholarship.

How to enter

Review the rules for your category before creating and preparing your submission.
Create an original work inspired by “What My Culture Means to Me.”
Complete both pages of the entry form, including your work’s title, required details, and student and parent/guardian signatures.
Write a 10–100-word artist statement describing your work and how it relates to the theme.
If technology was used, complete the form’s technology-use details, including any generative elements.
Submit your artwork and completed entry form to Student Services by November 9, 2026.

Accessible Arts Division

Eligible students who identify as having a disability may choose to participate in the Accessible Arts Division. Review the division guidelines for eligibility, accommodations, and submission details.

Title and Artist Statement

Judges will consider your title and artist statement to learn more about your original work and creative interpretation of the theme. Give your work a title that stands out and describes how your work relates to your own personal interpretation of the theme. Use these guiding questions to help you write an artist statement:

How does your work relate to the theme?
What is your personal connection to the theme?
What did you use to create your work (e.g., supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)
What/who was your inspiration?

Review Criteria

Judges look for personal interpretations on the program theme that best exemplify creativity and technical skill.

Interpretation: How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the work itself and the artist statement.
Creativity: How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
Technique: The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.

Recognition for our Boca High Participants & Winners

During a spring PTSA General Membership meeting, our participants will be recognized with a certificate and an award.
Student participants that places either 1st, 2nd or 3rd will receive a special award.

Scholarships and Prizes

National level awards include the following:

Merit Award: Bronze Medal; Certificate of Merit; Work featured in the traveling exhibition.
Award of Excellence: $200 Young Artist Scholarship; Silver Medal; Certificate of Excellence; Work featured in the traveling exhibition.
Outstanding Interpretation Award: An expense-paid trip for awardee and chaperone to showcase work on stage at the National PTA Awards and Reflections Celebration; $800 Young Artist Scholarship; Gold Medal; Certificate of Outstanding Interpretation; Work featured in the traveling exhibition; $200 Prize for Local PTA Unit.
