Don't miss the PTSA General Membership Meeting this Tuesday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Boca High Media Center. Our special guest speaker, Officer Brock, will discuss school safety and security. All are welcome - and students earn service hours for attending! Light refreshments will be served.

 

There will be no school the week of November 25-29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition, there will be no PTSA newsletter next Sunday, November 24. (We'll resume publication on December 1.) We hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving in the company of friends and family!

PTSA Updates

Did you receive your save-the-date postcard for the Boca High PTSA Dinner & Auction? Be sure to purchase your tickets early to save money and guarantee a spot at the big event! Now through January 29, tickets are available for $85; on January 30, the ticket price will increase to $100.

After leading our football team to an 8-2 regular season record and qualifying for the playoffs, Coach Brandon Walker has been named a finalist for the Lou Groza Coach of the Year Award for football, presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

Coach Al Neischloss has been named the Sun-Sentinel Girls Bowling Coach of the Year. This recognition is very well deserved, as the team finished second at Districts and qualified this year for the State Championships!

Our Girls’ Diving Team finished 1st, 6th, and 13th in the State. This is only the second-ever Diving State Championship at Boca High! 

Just a reminder, there is no school the week of November 25-29.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Our next School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting is scheduled for December 9.  Everyone is welcome!

College and Career Readiness

Thinking of going into the military? The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test will be given in the Boca High gym before school on Tuesday, November 19.

SAT Prep Sessions are held on Wednesdays during Blue lunch (room 8-308) and Gold lunch (room 4-301). Come on out and get ready for the test! 

Cambridge has released the Spring 2020 AICE Exam Schedule! Download it here, or view it on the PTSA website. Mark your calendars, because there are no make ups for missed AICE exams. Juniors and Seniors: Apply now through January 31 to be a Bank of America Student Leader! The Student Leaders program provides a diverse pipeline of community-minded young students with the leadership training they need to be successful in the workforce. Program participants are awarded paid summer internships with local nonprofits such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Habitat for Humanity, and participate in a national leadership summit in Washington, D.C. Bobcat Athletics

Boca High Competitive Cheer is partnering with the Olympic Heights squad to host a UCA Sendoff Showcase in the Boca High gym on Wednesday, December 4, at 7:00 p.m. Support the teams as they prepare to travel to the regional qualifier in Tampa in hopes of securing bids to the National High School Cheerleading Championship! Tickets are $5 at the door. All proceeds collected will be divided between the Boca High and Olympic Heights teams.

Want to be part of the Boys Water Polo team? There's a mandatory interest meeting after school this Thursday, November 21, in room 5-213.

Congrats to Boys Varsity Soccer for earning the title of Intra-squad Tournament Champs, and to Boys JV Soccer for winning their Friday-night game 4-0.

 

Congratulations to our Bobcat Football team (and their generous donors) for collecting nearly 100 boxes of cereal for Boca Helping Hands!

Clubs and Organizations

 

The Interact Club is partnering with 4Ocean to host a beach cleanup on Saturday, November 23, from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Deerfield Beach. Sign up online and earn community service hours!

Congrats to Boca High Speech and Debate for their great showing at last weekend's Crestian Tournament. The Public Forum duos of Ryan Livingstone and Turner Loesel, and Nathan Ponters and Rose Walters, made it to double octafinals. Sophia Karaz earned fifth place in Humorous Interpretation.

You don't have to own a car to join Car Club! Meetings take place on the first and third Thursdays of every month. Blue lunch meetings are in Mr. Pisani's room (8-116) and Gold lunch meetings are in Mr. Greene's room (4-312). Activities include discussing cars and going to auto meets and shows.

Kudos to Boca High's recent AVID Award winners: Anthony Tran (12th grade), Maria Herrera Martinez (11th grade), Kayla Reynolds (10th grade), and Camouse Louis (9th grade).

TREE Club is still recruiting members! Have fun and earn lots of service hours. Blue lunch meetings will now be held in room 8-110; Gold lunch meetings happen in room 5-202D. Follow them on Instagram for more info: @treeclubb.

Paw Pals is collecting pet supply donations through December 13. Want to help? Bring dog/cat food, blankets, towels, toys, paper towels , disinfecting wipes, dog beds, cat litter, and heavy-duty trash bags to room 5-114.

The Computer Science Club meets every Wednesday after school in Mr. Miller's room, 4-305.

The Math Honor Society is seeking members! Stop by room 8-205 for details, or come by for free tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

Interested in being part of the Medical Honor Society? Stop by room 4-312 to pick up an application and find out more information.

Love science and want to earn community service hours? Join the Science National Honor Society. Stop by room 8-210 for details.

Yearbooks are currently on sale online (enter school code 18 for Boca High) for $85* each, but the price will go up on 12/20!  While you're online, you can also purchase an ad for your senior, or upload photos for yearbook staff. *Discounted pricing is available for students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch.

Fundraisers

NJROTC

The Boca High NJROTC is hosting a fundraiser at New York Grilled Cheese (493 N Federal Hwy) on November 19 from 3:30pm - 8pm. Stop by for tasty treats and support the Bobcat Battalion!

 

Boys LAX

On November 20 from 6pm - 8pm, watch an array of sports and enjoy great food with lacrosse families at HiJinx Sports Bar and Grille (133 SE Mizner Blvd). A percentage of sales will be donated to the team.

 

Boys LAX Again!

Shop at Vineyard Vines at the Town Center on December 4 from 5pm - 7pm and support the Boys Lacrosse team. You'll get 10% off your purchase, and Vineyard Vines will give another 10% back to the team! (This is a date change from 11/19!)

Bobcats, the last day to sign up for the school-sponsored Spring Break trip to Iceland is this Friday, November 22. Dr. Wellman is hosting one more informational meeting covering the highlights of the trip and answering questions; come to room 8-212 this Wednesday, November 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for details. Two-year-old Riley - daughter of Boca High football coach Jack Urbaniuk and special education teacher Meghan Urbaniuk - has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Please join us in sharing your love and support for this Bobcat family. 

 

Hooray for Boca High's latest Bobcat R.A.P. winner, Joshua Barbosa! Bobcat R.A.P. is a positive behavior support system. Teachers can "catch" a student behaving in a positive manner and enter them into a weekly drawing for great prizes like Starbucks gift cards, movie tickets, and t-shirts!
